A self-taught, award-winning artist, Tad SUZUKI paints urban subject matters in a highly realistic style. Born in Tokyo, Tad came to Canada as a student in 1980s, began painting professionally in 1994.
Since then Tad has shown his work in various group and solo exhibitions, and received numerous awards in regional and international shows, including Myfanwy Spencer Pavelic Award (Sooke Fine Arts Show) and Daler-Rowney Purchase Prize (The American Artist show in California). His work has been featured in posters, books, and international art magazines. While inspirations for his painting come from the subjects themselves, Tad admires a number of contemporary realists such as Edward Hopper, Richard Estes, Ralph Goings, and John Register, as well as historical realists of the East and West, namely, Hiroshige, Hokusai, Canaletto, Bellotto, and Vermeer.
Tad’s original works are included in private and corporate collections in Belgium, Canada, Switzerland, and the United States. Tad lives in Victoria, BC, Canada and is represented by Winchester Galleries (Victoria, BC) and Plus One Gallery (London, UK).

“In my paintings what you see is what you get. I don’t intend to have hidden agendas or symbols for viewers to interpret, although I hope the viewers reacts in their own ways to the urban space I re-create on canvas. My art represents a spontaneous reaction to the beauty I find in everyday environment, rather than an intellectual interpretation of the subject.”
“I believe it is a sense of light that gives life to my canvases; it brings out the feeling of being in a particular moment in time that is enshrined in each work. ”
